Me and my husband are going to disneyland for christmas and we will be taking our son. We already booked the hotel which in total came out to be $ 3200 including the tickets and park hopper tickets. We are staying 5 days and 4 nights, how much extra money should we take for food and gifts we also want to have dinner with the characters to have the full experience. We will be staying at the Disney’s Grand Hotel and Spa. Any ideas on how much money to take?

as much as you can, ideally in a credit card or debit card since wallets are easily stolen. Disney is expensive.

The Master Disneyland Veteran here and I can answer your question! Since you have already got the hotels and tickets ready you will need around I would say $ 600 dollars extra for food, gifts, and the character dining experience. Disneyland anit cheap so I hope you have the cash to shell out.
Your Hotel and Tickets are the most expensive part of the trip. As to how much extra to take it really depends on exactly what you want to do. But here are some averages(some spend less, some spend quite a bit more) for other usual items. From this it should give you an idea of what you would need to bring..then probably add a couple hundred dollar cushion to be safe.
Food: Per Day/Per Person
Counter Service(think Fast Food)
Breakfast – $ 10
Lunch/Dinner – $ 15
- If your son is going to order off of the kids menu figure about 1/2 price for him.
Table Service(think like a sit-down restaurant) can vary widely depending on where you go.
Lunch – $ 15-$ 40
Dinner- $ 25-$ 100
- For the Kids Menu figure about $ 8-$ 12(again depending on where you go).
Character Dining. Just as with Table Service this can vary depending on where you go
Breakfast – $ 24-$ 30
Lunch – $ 26-$ 35
Dinner – $ 32-$ 36
In general subtract about $ 10-$ 15 for kids 3-9 years of age depending on location
Snacks:
Drinks – $ 3-$ 5
Other Snack Items(Popcorn, Ice Cream..etc): $ 3-$ 8
Typical Souvenirs:
Mickey “Ear” Hats: $ 12-$ 25
Pins: $ 7+
T-Shirts:$ 15-$ 30
Sweaters:$ 30-$ 60
But you can find anything from about $ 5 pen/keychains up to $ 1000+ pieces of art.
